PolicyZenTransparency about our business model — so you understand exactly whose side we're on.
PolicyZen earns revenue when consumers find the product valuable enough to pay for. That's it.
We do not earn commissions from insurance companies. We do not earn referral fees when you buy or change a policy. We do not sell your insurance data to carriers, brokers, or data companies. We do not earn advertising revenue from insurers targeting you based on what you've uploaded.
Many consumer financial websites earn revenue from the products they feature — commissions when you sign up for a credit card, referral fees when you click through to an insurance quote. That model creates a conflict of interest: the information you receive can be influenced by which products pay the most.
PolicyZen is built differently. We don't earn from insurers, brokers, or agents. We don't earn commissions if you change your coverage. Our guides and tools exist to help you understand what you already have — not to steer you toward something new that benefits us.
When PolicyZen tells you your health insurance doesn't cover something, it's because your policy says so. There's no financial incentive to tell you anything else.

Real-time health insurance verification via FHIR patient access APIs will be available as a pay-per-check feature ($5–10 per verification) for free users, and included twice yearly for Premium subscribers. The cost of the verification query is paid to PolicyZen — not to the insurer.

PolicyZen is building toward a future where consumers can verify their coverage in real time, share it digitally at any transaction moment — a doctor's office, a rental car counter, a mortgage closing — and receive notifications when claims are processed.
In that future, the transaction partners (healthcare providers, rental companies, lenders) will pay PolicyZen a small verification fee when a consumer shares their coverage with them. The consumer never pays for that verification — the business that benefits from knowing does.
This is the same model that made credit card networks work. Cardholders get the service free. Merchants pay a small fee per transaction. The network earns from volume, not from selling cardholder data.
PolicyZen's long-term success depends on consumers trusting us. That trust requires that our interests stay aligned with theirs — permanently.
